A little
bit of history of
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy
as we know it today is not a new therapy. It dates back to the ancient
civilizations of Arabia,
China,
.
In these
early times man probably started using plants for healing by either
trail and error, or by instinct. As their experience grew,
they obtained a working knowledge that certain plants were goods for
fevers, diarrhoea, pain, indigestion and that others would induce
vomiting. Plants were
used in cooking; some were burned for their pleasant smell, while
others had oils pressed out of them. This knowledge of herbal
medicine and the use of oils have evolved gradually over many
centuries
The first people to dispense aromatics were the priests;
they were the first perfumers, the first aromatherapists. As the use of aromatics
became more common they were also employed by physicians.
Aromatics
were also widely used in medicines and cosmetic preparations at this
time.
